Attun · legal
Attun is a product of The GRIN Labs LLC.
Attun is a team intelligence service operated by The GRIN Labs LLC, a limited liability company organised under the laws of the State of California, United States.
These Terms govern your use of Attun as an individual participant. If your organisation has entered into a separate written agreement with us for an engagement, that agreement governs the commercial relationship between us and your organisation, and these Terms govern your personal use of the product. Where the two conflict on a point about your individual account, these Terms apply to you.
By creating an account, or by accepting these Terms when prompted inside the product, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Attun.
Participant. An individual with an Attun account, invited by their organisation.
Client. The organisation that engaged us and invited you.
Demo. A trial of Attun, either self-guided with made-up teammates or in a live workshop room with other attendees, that we offer so people can experience the product before any engagement.
Demo user. Anyone who creates an account to take part in a Demo, whether or not they belong to a Client.
Work Core. The set of short statements about how you work, drafted from your own words and choices, which you review, edit and approve.
Private capture. Anything you record in Attun that you have not shared with anyone.
Approved material. Work Core content you have reviewed and approved, at the visibility you chose.
You must be 18 or older. Attun is a workplace product. Most people use it because their organisation invited them. We also offer Demos, which anyone 18 or older may join by creating an account and accepting these Terms. We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 18.
Your account is yours alone. Do not share your login. Tell us at info@thegrinlabs.com if you believe someone else has access to it.
Attun runs on four commitments. They are not marketing lines. They are terms of this agreement, and you can hold us to them.
Evidence stays attached. Every statement in your Work Core carries the words you actually wrote or the choice you actually made. You can see the source of any claim about you.
You are the author. Our software drafts. You review, edit and approve. Your edit is the record. After you approve, our software does not author changes to your account. Only you change what your account says about you.
We measure the experience, not the person. Attun looks at conditions inside a team. It does not rate, rank, score or classify individuals, and it does not produce a type, profile or personality category for anyone.
Nothing private travels. Private captures are visible to no one. Material you share with one person stays between the two of you. Material you hold back is never used to answer anyone's question, and its absence is never shown. No administrator, including our own staff, can read private material, because the system is built so that they cannot rather than because we have a policy against it.
These Terms apply in full to Demo users. A Demo lets you write a short Work Core, ask about made-up teammates or other people in your workshop room, and see how Attun works with a team. It is offered for your personal evaluation only.
In a workshop room, other attendees can ask about you only after you share your number, and only from what you approved. When the workshop ends, asking closes.
You may delete your Demo account and everything in it at any time from inside the product. If you do not continue past the Demo, we may delete Demo accounts after 12 months of inactivity.
You keep ownership of everything you write, record and approve in Attun. We claim no ownership of it.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, process and display your content only as needed to operate Attun for you and to show approved material to the audiences you selected. That licence ends when the content is deleted. We do not sell your content, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to train any general-purpose AI model.
You are responsible for what you put into Attun. Do not enter content you have no right to share, and think carefully before including detail about other people who are not participants.
Attun uses AI in two places, and we want you to know exactly where.
Drafting. When you complete intake, an AI model assembles your answers into short statements. Those drafts are proposals. They become your Work Core only when you approve them, and you can rewrite any of them in your own words first.
Answering. When a teammate asks a question about how you work, an AI model answers using only material you approved for that audience, and shows the source sentence alongside the answer.
You are always told when you are interacting with an AI system, and AI-drafted statements are shown as drafts until you approve them.
What Attun does not do: it does not infer emotion from your face, your voice, or any other biometric signal. It does not perform voice stress analysis or facial expression analysis. Where Attun handles audio you record, that audio is transcribed to text and the text is what is processed. It does not score, rank or evaluate you against other people.
AI output can be wrong. Attun's answers are a starting point for a conversation between colleagues, not a finding about anyone. Treat them accordingly.
Attun is designed to help colleagues understand each other. It is not built or validated for any of the following, and using it for them is a breach of these Terms:
If you are a Client, you agree not to use Attun, its outputs, or the fact of a person's participation for any of those purposes, and not to require any employee to participate as a condition of employment or advancement. If we believe Attun is being used this way, we may suspend the engagement.
Attun is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and it is not a clinical or diagnostic tool.
Do not use Attun to harass, demean or intimidate anyone. Do not attempt to access another person's private material, probe the system for ways around the visibility rules, reverse engineer the service, scrape it, resell access, or upload malicious code. Do not use it in breach of any law that applies to you.
No competing use. You may not use Attun, a Demo, or anything you learn from them, including our questions, their order, our drafting approach, our materials or our workshop design, to design, build, train, benchmark or market a product, service, assessment or program that competes with Attun or with The GRIN Labs' services. This does not stop you from using your own Work Core, or from using general knowledge and skills you already had.
No extraction. Do not attempt to obtain, reconstruct or copy the instructions, rules, question logic or checks that Attun uses to draft or answer, whether by technical means, by repeated or systematic questioning of the AI, by automated access, or by recording or transcribing the product in use, other than your own material.
If you find a way to see something you should not be able to see, tell us at info@thegrinlabs.com rather than using it. We will not pursue anyone who reports a vulnerability in good faith and gives us reasonable time to fix it.
Attun is an evolving product. We add features, change them and occasionally remove them. We aim for continuous availability but do not promise it, and we may take the service down for maintenance. Where a change materially reduces what you can do, we will tell you before it happens if we reasonably can.
Some features may be labelled as visible but not yet released. Those are not promises of a delivery date.
You can stop using Attun at any time. You can ask us to delete your account and your content at any time, in the product or by writing to info@thegrinlabs.com. Deletion is real deletion, not hiding, subject only to backups that expire on their normal cycle and to anything we are legally required to keep.
If you leave your organisation, or your organisation ends its engagement with us, your Work Core does not automatically disappear, because it belongs to you rather than to a team. Approved material stops being visible to that team at the point the engagement ends. Your own account and content remain available to you, so that you can read, export or delete them. If you no longer belong to any team in Attun, we will contact you before removing anything, and we will not remove your content for at least 12 months.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches section 8 or section 9. Where we do, we will say why and, unless the law prevents it, give you the chance to retrieve your own content.
Attun, its software, design, method and documentation belong to us. These Terms give you permission to use the service. They do not transfer any ownership in it. You may not copy the product, its method or its written materials for use outside Attun without our written permission.
Our method includes the design, wording and sequence of our questions, the way follow-up questions are chosen, the structure of a Work Core, the rules and checks used to draft and answer, and our workshop and session designs. Your access to Attun, including a Demo, is a limited, personal, non-transferable permission to use the service as offered. It is not a licence to reproduce or adapt any of it.
Any feedback you send us, we may use freely and without obligation. We will not attribute it to you without asking.
What colleagues share inside Attun is shared in confidence. Do not repeat another participant's material outside the context they shared it in, and do not export it, screenshot it or circulate it without their agreement. This obligation continues after you stop using Attun.
Our confidential information. Some of what you see in Attun, in a Demo or in a session we run is not public: unreleased features, our session materials, and how the product works behind the screen. Please keep it confidential, and do not share it outside your organisation without our written permission, for three years after you last use Attun. This does not cover anything that is or becomes public through no fault of yours, that you already knew, that you develop independently, or that the law requires you to disclose.
Attun is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, or that AI-generated drafts and answers will be accurate.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable to the other for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, lost revenue or lost data arising from lost profits or revenue.
Our total liability to any individual participant arising out of or relating to Attun is limited to one hundred United States dollars. Where a Client has a written agreement with us, the liability cap in that agreement governs the Client's claims.
If you are a Client, you will defend and indemnify us against third party claims arising from your use of Attun in breach of section 8, or from your instructions to us that breach applicable law.
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you before it takes effect and ask you to accept the new version inside the product. Continuing to use Attun after that point means you accept it. Each version is dated and previous versions are available on request.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. The state and federal courts located in California have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them, and both parties consent to that jurisdiction.
If you are resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.
Before starting formal proceedings, please write to us at info@thegrinlabs.com. Most things are faster to fix by talking.
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to a successor in connection with a merger or sale of the business, and will tell you if we do.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any written agreement with your organisation, are the whole agreement about your use of Attun.
